I had a privileged childhood, growing up in the company of four uncles, on both sides of my family, who did things like surviving the Great Depression, serving their country in World War 2, laboring to bring crops to market, working on their own cars, cleaning their own fish, keeping their wedding vows, publicly worshipping God every Sunday, and generally teaching me by example what it means to be an honorable man. The last of them, my Uncle Henry “Mutt” McFarland, a veteran of the Air Force when it was called the Army Air Corps, went to be with the Lord this week. In this small way, I honor him. America really needs more Uncle Mutts.
